Silver

Here are some helpful tips regarding the care and cleaning of Silver items

Cleaning silver

To clean silver with aluminum foil and baking soda,

line a container with foil (shiny side up), add boiling water and 1–2 tbsp of baking soda per liter. Submerge tarnished silver so it touches the foil, allowing the chemical reaction to remove tarnish in 3–5 minutes. Rinse and buff dry with a soft cloth.

This is not recommended  if your items have stones or coral .

Toothpaste for cleaning difficult silver items

This is a good method for cleaning intricate items,

A soft toothbrush  and a small amount of your average toothpaste will remove most tarnish or Debris

Storing silver

Silver tarnishes when its surface reacts with sulfur-containing compounds in the air, forming a dark layer of silver sulfide. While pure silver is less reactive, most jewelry is made of sterling silver, which contains copper to improve durability. Copper oxidizes quickly when exposed to sulfur and moisture.

Direct sunlight can cause and accelerate the tarnishing of silver. While light alone isn't the primary culprit, the sun's UV rays and the heat it generates speed up chemical reactions between silver and sulfur compounds in the air.
