Strand of Vintage african trade beads from the 1900's.
African Trade Beads, specifically a variety often referred to as "African Amber."While they resemble natural amber, these particular beads are typically made from phenolic resin or copal. In many cases, these beads were used as a form of currency across Africa, notably in Nigeria and Morocco. These have a natural patina.
These beads are not natural Baltic amber. They were made from a phenolic resin to fill the appetite for amber beads for the African trade.
Bead size is 38mm x 26mm thick approximately but this varies some as they are all hand made
Total weight 672 grams 30 beads.
